Our Mission

liveMEwell, has realized that there are many people who want to access health and wellbeing messages, but don’t know where to start - especially men. By working extensively alongside men, it has become clear they are not getting positive health messages delivered regularly from their communities.

When blokes do have the opportunity to hear how to create their own health from within; learn how small lifestyle changes can have a big impact on physiology and health; as a group they become engaged, eager and willing to absorb more (just getting them to the start line is the issue!!)

Health Coaching and education is important for everyone, regardless of gender, but my experience has led me to see that women are more likely to seek answers around their own health and wellbeing before it is a big issue, than men. Whilst we are growing from the ground up, our healthcare system needs to embrace new ways to get these messages to those with the XY chromosomes. This is something we understand well running the Men’s Muster and Building Better Blokes workshops, with the ultimate aim to help bridge the gap between conventional and integrative medicine.

In guiding people to understand their own ability to improve mindset and create health from within we can build tribes that thrive who are actively taking a part in proactively preventing the onset of mental and physical chronic health issues .

Understanding the significant benefit of Health and Wellbeing Coaches role in creating health for our communities, and with a view to creating standards within our profession, I helped to Co Found the newly formed Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA.org) This gives us a chance for us to advocate our importance as part of collaborative health care system, and you as a client or patient, can feel reassured that who you work with, has appropriate experience and qualifications.

About Sam

Samantha McBride is a Health, Wellness and Mental Fitness coach who specialises in helping guys that feel stuck or frustrated build their worlds better.

About thirty years ago, having finished an Honours degree in Human Physiology in Scotland, a territorial army commission under her belt, Sam just wanted to live a little before she settled into army life and work out how her medical career would evolve. It was on that OE to Australia that meeting a fella from Southland that would end up changing the trajectory of her life. After a few years selling legal drugs for a living by day, running a signals squadron at the weekend, "Kiwi and I somehow stayed together" and she made the permanent leap to Te Anau - the most beautiful place in the world, where they brought up 3 amazing girls. "It is not just the place though, but also the people. I have always loved the No. 8 wire, put your boots on and get on with it attitude of New Zealanders’ and been proud to try and do my bit in that space."

Sam feels she has a reasonable understanding of the rural sector and it's issues. Her husband has been a topdressing pilot in Northern Southland for over 20 years. They brought their own business there over 10 years ago, where she is the Health and Safety Manager and no stranger to government compliance. Their companies mission is to partner with people to make real gains in the land  by being safe, respectful, progressive and sustainable and she understands personally, that when farmers are feeling the pain of weather, policy or social opinion and how this can negatively impact the whole of the agricultural sector.

After being involved in several different businesses over the years, Sam's passion for how the body and mind works was still alive; her calling to want to help make a real difference in people's health had never really subsided. In 2017 she spent a year studying a new area of medicine - Health and Wellness Coaching to enable positive behaviour change,  and has not looked back.

Since starting her health coaching business, Livemewell in 2018 Sam's journey has evolved to create events (Men's Muster Fiordland), groups (Building Better Blokes, Grow Us Well- coming soon) and coaching that supports people to take stock of where they are at, learn tricks to manage better, and tools to grow and thrive. Never afraid to get her boots dirty, she accepts that the challenge of bringing health and wellbeing to our true southern men is a significant mountain to climb, but like she says with her clients, each mountain starts with one small step!

Having an Honours Degree in Human Physiology, Sam loves to share how the body can be influenced by everything we think and do both positively and negatively. Delivering messages in a no frills, down to earth way, she helps you to understand what lights are showing up on your own dashboards. She feels that when guys get to appreciate how easily they can influence their own engines, it ignites curiosity and allows them to problem solve their own futures better. Sam believes that both men and the rural sector are severely under served in creating health and is keen to improve awareness, growth and connection in all of these areas to creating healthier outcomes for all.

Sam is passionate about the impact Health and Wellness coaches can have in creating healthy communities and was a founding Director of the Health Coaching Australia and New Zealand Association (www.hcanza.org). This was largely to help set up standards and community for the industry in order to help guarantee well trained, qualified coaches, deliver the best services to promote unique and positive behaviour changes to the people they serve. Health and wellness coaching is a lot more than just being an accountability partner. Sam was part of the original association inception, co launching the association in March 2020, where she remained on the board for over 3 years.  Now the association has reached 200 members, she has moved on to pursue more projects to directly improve the health of men and rural communities (GrowUsWell).
